Association des Compagnies de Téléphone du Québec

Founded in Rimouski on September 1st, 1948 and incorporated on October 29th of the same year, the Association des Compagnies de Téléphone du Québec inc. (ACTQ) is a non-profit organization regrouping 9 independent companies.


The Independents service more than 50 000 customers situated mainly in rural areas throughout the province of Quebec. As incumbents, they provide the basic local service to residential and business customers as well as offering, on an optional basis, a range of services for call management, data services and Internet access. They also allow their customers access to long distance calling through their interconnexion with various interexchange carriers.

The Independents' goal is to satisfy their customers' demands by offering affordable products and services of quality, in accordance with the standards established by the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC).

The ACTQ, as a leader for the Independents of Quebec, advises its members on a day to day basis on telecommunication related matters and assists them in the setting up and application of technological, regulatory and administrative policies.

The ACTQ head office is located in Saint-Alexis-des-Monts, Quebec and the president general manager answers to the board of directors. In addition to seeing to the smooth running of the Association's activities, he ensures a communication link between the Independents, the members of the telecommunications industry and the CRTC.

The ACTQ maintains close ties with the world of telecommunications, in general and with associate members, that provide the Independents with products and services as well as establishing business contacts.
